Thank you for your helpful comments. I'm completely new to the scene and thought my edits simply were not being saved! I should have researched before diving (?) in to make changes. Loving your User page... we think alike! :) Rtrota (talk) 15:50, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ebell

[edit]

Please keep your Republican tags and opinion. I am concerned with the science. Be careful. If defending the tobacco industry is embarrassing to Ebell, you have no power to delete this chapter of his career. He is now a public figure, and his career is essential to his biography. Thank you. Imagine what would happen to the Ann Coulter article if Trump makes her Secretary of State. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:14, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Point is, I got major flak for an article draft (and had to redraw it) that has been commented positively by Michael Oppenheimer. The guys here are much more radical than real world experts and they deny to comment on actual comparative research, e.g. about the difference between the dealings with Ozone depletion and global warming (this one the gang was not able to cope with). That said, I would abhor of Coulter as Secretary of State as well. But I am German (Christian democrat, pretty liberal in comparision) and we got different issues. I never thought in the past I would be much positive about Trump but I start to like him. Polentarion Talk 07:13, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

68.198.3.221

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you reverted the edit I made.

There is no citation because there is a citation already listed. The text as written before with the citation was written in error by someone else. In New York State, peace officers do not need licenses to possess firearms unless there is a restriction placed on them in 2.10 of the CPL. At the end of every section listing the peace officers title, it will either end or also include "provided, however, that nothing in this subdivision shall be deemed to authorize such officer to carry, possess, repair or dispose of a firearm unless the appropriate license therefor has been issued pursuant to section 400.00 of the penal law."

Any title that doesn't have the above statement in quotes are authorized to carry firearms. I invite you to take a look at and see which titles are allowed to and which aren't here: http://ypdcrime.com/cpl/article2.htm

DYK for Kingston, Mississippi

[edit]

On 15 November 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kingston, Mississippi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that descendants of the first settlers of the tiny rural hamlet of Kingston, Mississippi, include actors William Holden and Patrick Swayze? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kingston, Mississippi. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Kingston, Mississippi), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Lessons learned

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677! As the deletion saga is finally over, I propose we both reflect on the events. (Perhaps, even invite @John from Idegon: because he participated in the initial discussion.) Your nominations have prompted me to re-read the policies, and even though you ended up the only person in favor of 'delete', I believe that your nominations were somewhat justified, especially the nomination of The Concrete Herald in its then sophomoric state. I want to understand, however, why you dodged all my questions and attempts to reach out to you once it was apparent that all the problems were promptly fixed, and your initial reasoning was no longer applicable. I took these articles a long way since they were nominated, and I'd appreciate a dialogue. Please, stand in my shoes for a minute. It's quite upsetting and discouraging when somebody wants to destroy your work, especially if it's volunteer work. It's even more upsetting when you put additional effort and fix the problems, but the prompt to destroy your work remains, and all communication is shut down. Of course, this is not a position you want to be in, and I hope that is not a position that you'd want to put others in the future.

Getting back to the lessons learned, I'll definitely be more mindful at demonstrating notability right from the start. I also want to learn how to engage a more cooperative and engaging environment once a disagreement presents itself. Could you help me with this by reflecting on your position and reasoning? 凰兰时罗 (talk) 16:55, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The original article had two sources, and one of them had no link. I went looking for my own sources and was unable to support the notability of either article. I'm glad things worked out for the articles. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:54, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alabama County election removals

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677! Thanks for taking the interest in the edits I had made on the Alabama Counties starting with B to include their relatively recent election results (since 2000). I apologise for not including citations for this work but I used the Autauga County as template and this did not have a citation. I notice you haven't been in and deleted that counties version.

As you can imagine as someone who has performed 1000's of edits and created many pages this took some time to collate, enter and I was about to work through the counties begin with C when I saw you had reverted everything I did yesterday. I have citations to enter so please can you restore my edits and I will add citations following your helpful guidance link. (The Batch (talk) 18:44, 16 November 2016 (UTC))[reply]

[edit]

You sent me an alert about adding links to the names in communities. I came across a page that had links like I added. After seeing these links I starting changing the "red" links that went to "Creating ...". Since there was no info for the community, I thought I would add a link like I saw on another page. If I should not do this, I will stop. But I only did so because I saw it done elsewhere. Also if there are any other problems with the changes I've made let me know. I've only been doing this for a couple weeks. Is there a better way to respond to people. I couldn't find any. Jdtrue63Jdtrue63 (talk) 09:10, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded on your talk page. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:29, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I'm sorry if this is not the proper way to respond. I'm not familiar with this format and can't even remember how I sent you the last message. I started this by correcting a typo. Then I noticed how the pages didn't all stick to the same format, so I started making them look the same. Just the communities section since that's where my interest is right now. Is that okay or should I stop that also? Then I noticed that someone had linked some communities that didn't have wikipedia pages to an outside site. I thought that was a good idea and started doing that. Now I know not to. I was putting brackets on them to make them turn red before that. Is it okay to put the brackets on a community even if I have no intention of writing an article? I don't want to screw anything up and I don't want to get banned from the site (if that's possible), but I like things to be neat and orderly. HELLO! This is in regards to your message to me below:

"Hello, I'm Magnolia677. I noticed that you made a change to an article, United States Merchant Marine Academy, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. I'm brand new to adding content to Wikipedia. After looking at citation rules, it appears that a citation = a published writing. My content about the Department of Naval Science was based on the fact that I'm a Navy officer and was stationed there as the Assistant Officer in Charge of the Department. The content is much more accurate than referencing a source since I was in the thick of it!

Any guidance on how to proceed? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Auggie.negele (talkcontribs) 23:54, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

SSBN entry

[edit]

Hello! I saw that you undid my changes to the SSBN page too (due to not citing reference). The original article did not cite a reference in the part I changed. It was wrong. I was an officer stationed on the USS Michigan which had C-4 missiles (along with the other subs referenced) until going into the shipyards in 2004, beginning its refueling and overhaul into a SSGN. There is no way to reference this fact with a writing...and, as stated, the original article does not have a citation...it's just wrong.

Thanks... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Auggie.negele (talkcontribs) 00:05, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Any editor is free to remove unsourced content. Both your edits involved the addition of new content, and Wikipedia has pretty tight rules about supporting new content with reliable sources (see Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Verifiability). This is not to imply that your personal experience isn't completely true or accurate, it just needs to be supported by a published source. Are you able to find a source online that can support your edits? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:19, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rtjfan/ARtking

[edit]

Hello, Magnolia677. I noticed that Rtjfan seemed to create another account while the account was blocked for 72 hours. The current account, ARtking, has been similarly creating unsourced articles and adding unsourced content to articles, including BLP. ARtking is receiving the deletion nomination messages from other editors on a daily basis.

I'm not sure if EVADE or SCRUTINY can apply to this case and I don't know how to stop the user, but I think that the editor's behavior is still problematic and that it needs to be stopped sooner or later. Since you brought Rtjfan's case to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive937#Mass unsourced edits to rap music articles, I believe you can deal with the user in an appropriate manner. Lou Mathews

[edit]

Hi! I was having problems with the website that I was using for my information about Lou Mathews. I tried to complete my edit, but then the site was unreachable/down for maintenance (which happens to me occasionally since I usually do most of my work early in the morning). I already had a note to fix this tomorrow morning (using my history file). The only reason I added Lou is that his article was an orphan, and I easily found his date of birth, education, and other info. So I know the info currently looks unreferenced, but it is not (nor is the info for the other college I updated for him).

Separately, I picked a person at random from the Vermont College page: Jo-Ann Mapson (right above Lou). She just happens to have a long education and teaching bio without a single reference. In fact, her whole article is not referenced for any statement made except for a list of her books. Are you working to correct this and presumably all of the others that may be in the list without references?

I hope you realize that I am a new editor. I'm not perfect, but I am trying to edit per the Wikipedia policies/guidelines, etc. although I am obviously still learning. Thanks for your patience. Zcarstvnz (talk) 23:14, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: DuPage County edit

[edit]

Well excuse me please but I just worked that out myself with a variety of maps and things for what must have been over an hour and more, why does it need to be referenced when the resources are publicly and freely available for reference even here on wikipedia?

Further, I don't mean to sound defensive but I do notice your snarky little comment you've left there though "much of which seems a personal interpretation of a road map", you know that really is a little rude just to go ahead and delete the whole lot, now rather than plowing another man's field why don't you get your tractor out and dig your own? Now I will make references where I can, I suppose its good that I've been on the internet long enough to save extra copies of my work and comments and so forth before some self-appointed internet wizard comes along and magicks it all away.

But, having said that, and if I haven't already burned my bridges with you by complaining like that, since I'm going to be true I'll do what you say as best I can and make references, if you could kindly suggest what needs it and what does not that may be helpful, do the election results need a reference? - They already have one and you removed them anyway, does the info about these several Reps. need a reference for each, if so do I reference another article on wiki, make a note, or do I need to reference an outside source? And these geographical descriptions I made, should I just reference a few of the different maps I used - I don't know what measure of detail is the expected standard for this sort of thing on wikipedia, I don't suppose there is one, obviously the description I made is approximate, but it is accurate, I'd be here all week and all month if I have to go out and get my little yard-wheel on a stick and measure it all out for you - My intention was to give a relatively brief but detailed description of what parts of the county are in what district - This is practical for people mainly in the county, and in the state for reference, I'm sure they mail out this sort of info but not everybody gets it, and even then they can be without understanding, I think what I wrote could be readily understood and used, once it has citations of course, now you have yourself a fine one.

Sincerely, Eli — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.30.23 (talk) 01:46, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eli, thanks for writing and sorry if my edit summary seemed harsh. I don't own Wikipedia, or the article you were editing, so you have as much right to edit here as I do. Your edit was really long and included the names of a number of politicians, and as I recall, went on and on about the geography of the county. I removed it because it was unsourced, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a source for the elected officials and add it back. Also, your entire edit has been saved already in the article's history. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:09, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The content regarding Asheville's climate was certainly not unsourced, considering it had been in previous versions of the page until a new user decided to put the "real climate" of Asheville, which was very unsourced as well as factually inaccurate. Declined speedy deletion nomination of Tero Civill

[edit]

Hello Magnolia677. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Tero Civill as an article that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A7. That criterion did not apply because the artist has a notable label. Appable (talk) 06:29, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I also declined your speedy deletion nomination of Anthony Pappa because the artist has a notable label, which indicates he may potentially be notable. Appable (talk) 06:32, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I respectfully disagree with your decision to revert edits made by the new Wikipedia user Orthwesm (take a look at the user page and you'll see this was one of the user's first attempts--we should be supporting new users, not pushing them out as if we are all gatekeepers). In 12 edits Orthwesm made, one citation added using the Visual Editor created unintended text that, as you rightly point out, read like spam. This is a problem with the Visual Editor, which can pick up descriptor text as a title when sources are added using a URL only. The Visual Editor was created to encourage contributions and editing by making the task more accessible for new contributors such as Orthwesm. But, as demonstrated here, the VE is not perfect. It is a shame that instead of fixing that one error, you reverted a lot of editing that inarguable brought a greater level of clarity and verifiability to the article--I think you even refer to the editing as "sophisticated". Perhaps consider using the talk page next time. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marti2cs (talkcontribs) 18:58, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Winona, MS - Notable People

[edit]

Magnolia677 - Notability edits by MultidisciplineSE&D to Winona, MS webpage <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winona,_Mississippi>. Charles Wasson is a leading authority in multi-discipline Systems Engineering & Development (SE&D), one of the few certified INCOSE Expert Systems Engineering Professionals (ESEPs) worldwide, one of the top 2 SE textbook authors - publisher John Wiley and Sons, Inc. (New York) <http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-1118442261.html>, recipient of the International academy of Astronautics (IAA) - headquartered in Paris, France for its 2006 Engineering Science Book of the Year Award <http://http://iaaweb.org/content/view/144/244/>, member of the Lockheed Martin Corporation global Systems Engineering Council (SEC) and Chairperson of its Education and Professional Development Working Group (WG), 2007 Author of the Year Award for Lockheed Martin Corporation, and worldwide Thought Leader in multi-discipline SE shifting outdated Engineering education paradigms that have been outdated since the 1980's. I trust this will serve as adequate validation of Mr. Wasson's credentials as a Notable Person from Winona, MS.

Respectfully, MultidisciplineSE&DMultidisciplineSE&D (talk) 16:39, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) MultidisciplineSE&D, you're making a mistake that is common for new people here. Our unique use of the term "notable" can be vexing for newer editors. On Wikipedia, notable equates directly with "qualifies to have an article". The best way to show this is to actually write said article. AFC will be happy to help you do this. John from Idegon (talk) 19:04, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks John. Said another way, no matter how many sources editors add to support the inclusion of Gladys Love Smith on the "notable people" list at Saltillo, Mississippi (I may have been one of them), she just keeps getting deleted because in the eyes of Wikipedia, she isn't notable. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:04, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

John from Idegon and Magnolia677 Thank you very much for your enlightening guidance. I read the article about "Notable Topics" and have attempted to translate into Notable People. To save everyone a lot of time, here is my interpretation and examples.

Example 1 - My Systems Engineering textbook is cited is Google Scholar 207 times by people worldwide writing technical papers = "articles" - that cite this textbook as an authoritative reference.

Example 2 - NASA has invited me to be a Systems Engineering Program graduation commencement speaker 3 times over the past 10 years.

Example 3 - I have several academic technical papers that have been accepted by the American Association for Engineering Education (ASEE) and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Symposia and cited in other works.

Is any one or all of these on the right track in terms of "articles"?

Best Regards, MultidisciplineSE&DMultidisciplineSE&D (talk) 15:47, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Charles, may I call you that? I searched both Google and Bing and was unable to find any significant secondary sources to support your notability. I found a self-published bio here, which states that the International Academy of Astronautics gave one of your books an award in 2006 (this may be notable). Detailed criteria are listed at WP:BASIC, WP:ANYBIO, WP:AUTHOR and WP:ACADEMIC. If someone wrote an article about you, it may or may not be deleted, but Wikipedia frowns on self-published biographies, so some unrelated editor would need to write the article. Magnolia677 (talk) 16:40, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Magnolia677 - Yes, please use that name. Thank you for checking secondary sources. That provides insight as to why more are not showing up in searches. If you go to Google Scholar <https://scholar.google.com>, which tracks references in academic papers, and search for "Wasson System Engineering Analysis, Design, and Development", the text has been referenced in 209 technical papers worldwide. Typically these papers are embedded within conference and symposia proceedings, which require login access, professional organization journals, et al. I have found that sometimes a search within a referenced PDF file for Wasson may not yield a hit. However, you will find a citation for the reference at the end of the document.

As an additional set of secondary sources, the Systems Engineering Book of Knowledge (SEBoK) <http://sebokwiki.org/wiki/Guide_to_the_Systems_Engineering_Body_of_Knowledge_(SEBoK)> and search for "Wasson", the text is referenced 13 times.

Hope this helps.

Leave it alone or I will treat it as vandalism and ask Wikipedia to block you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.175.129.47 (talk) 20:18, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What is your criteria for notable people

[edit]

I have accomplished so much, that people from a small town only dream of. I could be an inspiration to some young teenager, who needs to follow their dreams.

I have been on the news, television, and even have movie cameos.... and I was born at Springdale Memorial Hospital and driven directly home to Prairie Grove Arkansas.

If you make history one format. Our town will remain as it is. Progress is being hindered here.

I strongly urge you to reconsider adding me to notable people from Prarrie Grove Arkansas. I have a Japanese Fanclub (johnainjapan2). It seems a little odd that my hometown does not recognize me on a web based format.

A little question

[edit]

Is there really a rule that a name or a word within a quoted phrase cannot be linked? That seemed to be what you said on this edit a while back. Not having the Diller Scofidio + Renfro firm linked in that quote seems a real loss. Thanks. Swliv (talk) 01:18, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Swliv: - it's at MOS:LINKSTYLE. Just find a workaround. Magnolia677 (talk) 01:24, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Orange County

[edit]

I had a source talking about how the 73rd AD is a safe seat for Republicans meaning they are not at risk of losing reelection, I thought it flowed with the concept of the paragraph talking about it being a republican stronghold.Capolitico (talk) 21:29, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto

[edit]

Please do not revert my edits. Currently, the introduction is poorly written, and I wish to make some good-faith stylistic changes. Take a look at it when I've finished, rather than assuming bad faith. Funnyhat (talk) 03:55, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm willing to bait that these are all Xboxmanwar, who was thankfully blocked for continuous disruption. Others are 98.65.192.162 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 112.215.175.78 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). —IB [ Poke ] 06:07, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Quit Whining

[edit]

If you want your source here they are. But stop whining to the board for everything you don't agree with. It's annoying a lot of editors including myself. EscoLaFlare (talk) 00:01, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

50/50innertainment

[edit]

I apologize for causing any inconvenience and didn't think removing the tag on the Young Buck page was a big deal since all the links were dead links. I wasn't expecting this to turn into a big dispute, I will kindly take back my edit and hope you can help me out, instead of bringing a new comer down. We look up to editors that have been around for years and wish to only achieve your success but can't do it if we're not helped. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johny5000 (talkcontribs) 18:12, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rogers Centre

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you deleted my revision to the Rogers Centre page. Let me explain...

I was the one who originally added the bit about American money being accepted there. The reference I used, is still there (the 'visitor information' part of Rogers Centre's website) but it no longer mentions whether or not they take US dollars. And I didn't bother asking anyone when I was there - I always take Canadian money when I go - so I didn't get the chance to find out if it's actually true or not. So since the reference I used, doesn't actually discuss the issue anymore, that's why I deleted it, since I didn't want anyone going up there expecting to be able to use American money when they might not actually take it. That's why it's always good to leave an edit summary. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:57, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FM289

[edit]

I understand, but these FM roads are just another kind of state highway, which are generally considered notable per se (WP:ROADOUTCOMES), and because it was easy to establish the context, it didn't seem appropriate to delete it under the supplied criterion. What about waiting a few days and then adding a prod, using a rationale such as "WP:TNT; better to have no article than to have this unreferenced stub"? I won't stand in the way.
